Julie Shannon is the Global Experiences Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. She is a first-generation college student, graduated with majors in International Studies and Music and a minor in Chinese from Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) in 2021, and received her master's degree in Urban Education & Community Studies from Rowan University in 2023, her thesis being "A Look at How Two Western Pennsylvania Institutions of Higher Education Increase Participation and Support Marginalized College Student Groups in Study Abroad Programs." In college, Julie participated in several study abroad programs herself, including W&J's "Political & Social Systems of Africa" Intersession travel course to Senegal and the Gambia, a self-designed Magellan research project titled "Music in China," the Luce Initiative on Asian Studies & the Environment's "The Transition of Resource-Based Cities in China" research grant, and the Council on International Educational Exchange's "China in a Global Context" semester-long study abroad program at East China Normal University in Shanghai, China. Julie is passionate about study abroad and extremely excited to serve as Pitt-Greensburg's new Vira I. Heinz Program Coordinator!
