International Experience Summary:

During my time in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic I had the opportunity to study the Spanish language, Dominican and Caribbean culture. I lived with an amazing host family where, almost immediately, I felt at home. My program provided many cultural trips which enhanced my overall experience. We visited Museo Del Hombre Dominicano, Centro Leon and the home of the Mirabal sisters in Santiago, Engombe (a former sugar plantation), and the home of a woman who practices Santeria. We were also able to experience the “tourist DR” on the east side of the island where most of the resorts are located.  I was also able to volunteer at a local children’s hospital, Robert Reed Cabral, where I helped with filing, spoke with families, and observed the sessions in the psychology department.
